WHY:

In 1986 and 1987, Fr. James Tully, a Xavarian Missionary priest, sexually abused Bill Nash, when Nash was a young seminarian in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  According to Milwaukee Criminal Court documents, Tully also abused other Wisconsin kids.  He also abused in Boston.  Fr. Tully was born in Malverne Long Island, and was from the diocese of Rockville Center.

In 2002, after new allegations were made by another victim, Tully was sent to work at the Vatican.  He now lives in Vicenza, Italy with the Xavarians at a facility that holds youth programs.  An Italian newspaper published a photo of him walking unsupervised near kids.

Image Tully’s supervisor admits, in writing, he’s a sex offender and that such criminal acts are repetitive, addictive and difficult to stop. The Xavarians have a long history of moving abusive priests from one country to another in order to avoid scandal and / or prosecution, as documented in an investigative series by the Dallas Morning News:  http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/longterm/stories/close_to_home.5f10ac9b.html

Nash publicly announced that he has petitioned the Vatican to defrock the priest who abused him and others in response to the recent comments by the Pope.  He provided clear documentation about Fr. James Tully, including a criminal record, settlements, and a letter from his superior that describes him as a pedophile.  http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/06/ashfield_man_calls_on_church_t.html?category=East%20Longmeadow

Nash is asking Archbishop Malloy High School officials to remove Tully from their distinguished alumnus society.  The school hosts an annual banquet to honor these alumni.

At the time of the abuse, Nash was studying to become a priest.  In 2005, he received a $75,000 settlement from the Xavarians.  Nash now lives in Ashfield, Massachusetts.
